Hidden in plain sight on the chest of this shirt is a message written in the Adinkra alphabet — a 3,000 year old West African visual language that most people will never recognise.

The symbol at the centre of this design is ABE DUA — the palm tree. In Adinkra culture the palm tree represents wealth, self-sufficiency, and resilience. It bends in every storm but its roots hold. It gives everything — oil, food, shelter — and asks for nothing in return. The encoded text beneath the design translates to one thing: Wealthy in ways that cannot be taken.
