The Adinkra Codex

A Language Hidden
In Plain Sight.

Adinkra symbols originate from the Akan people of Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire — one of the oldest and most sophisticated systems of visual communication in the world. Each symbol encodes a concept, a proverb, a way of seeing. Lowkora uses this tradition with deep respect — as language, never as aesthetic alone. We take care to honour its origins in everything we create.

Where Adinkra Comes From.

The word 'Adinkra' is believed to derive from the name of a king of the Gyaman people, Kofi Adinkra. The symbols have become a living language used across everyday life, ceremonies, and art throughout Ghana and West Africa.

We use this tradition with deep respect — drawing on its principles of visual encoding to create something honest and meaningful. We do not reproduce sacred symbols. We create original compositions inspired by the Adinkra approach, honouring the tradition that made it possible.

The Alphabet

The Alphabet Behind The Code.

Adinkra contains a full phonetic alphabet — each character represents a sound. Together the characters spell meaning. This is the system Lowkora uses to encode a specific phrase into every garment. The phrase is already on the tee. Most people will never read it. You will.

How The Coding Works.

Step 01 — The Garment
Upload shirt image in section settings (e.g. Synergist Seal on natural tee)

A design that reads as striking visual art to anyone who sees it.

Step 02 — The Symbol
Ese Ne Tekrema

Every Lowkora design is built around an Adinkra symbol. The symbol is not added to the artwork — it is the foundation of it. The meaning lives in the mark. The code wraps around it. Together they carry something that belongs entirely to the person wearing it.

One symbol. One phrase. Woven into every garment we make.

Step 03 — The Code
Upload the encoded text close-up image in section settings

Adinkra-inspired text encoded into the garment. Visible, but unreadable to anyone without the codex.

Step 04 — The Meaning

"Strong teeth, a wise tongue."

Some things you've carried long enough to know exactly what they cost. You know when to hold your ground and when to let something go. When speaking up changes everything — and when staying quiet is the strongest thing you can do.

That balance isn't taught. It's earned. Through the moments that pushed you further than you thought you could go.

The wearer chooses when to share this. Or not at all.
