The symbol at the centre of this design is HYE WO NHYE — that which cannot be burned. In Adinkra culture this symbol represents imperishability, endurance, and the part of a person that survives everything thrown at them. Fire cannot touch it. Time cannot erode it. No circumstance can destroy it. The encoded text beneath the design translates to one thing: Permanent soul, temporary struggle.
