The symbol at the centre of this design is ESE NE TEKREMA — the teeth and the tongue. In Adinkra culture this symbol represents the interdependence between two forces that could destroy each other but instead choose to work together. The teeth are hard. The tongue is soft. Neither survives without the other. The encoded text beneath the design translates to one thing: Strong teeth, a wise tongue.
